An early flowering, wide-growing upright shrub with large, frilly, double, light pink blossoms at the end of April. Inner set of petals is nearly white, imparting an unusual two-tone appearance. About 50 percent is retained during winter and turns mahogany red. Reportedly less susceptible than other small leaved rhododendrons to root afflictions.
