Pinus strobus 'Coney Island' - Coney Island eastern white pine
.
Common name: Coney Island eastern white pine
Family: Pinaceae (pine family)
Distribution: Species native to e. North America
Hardiness: USDA Zone 3
Life form: Evergreen tree
Comments: This is a dwarf Sid Waxman selection to 3' tall by 5' wide (perhaps taller after many years). A witches'-broom valued for its dense growth and long blue-green needles. Needles are longer than most dwarf types (5"), and persist for 3 years. Young stems are soft, flexible, gray to green and resinous; older wood dark gray brown to black. Unlike many dwarfs, this plant bears numerous small cones. Rarely found in the trade.
