Common name: Jane Platt star magnolia

Distribution: Species native to Japan

Comments: This small deciduous tree grows 10' tall and 20' wide with a broadly conical form. Very early flowers in April are light pink and made up of 20-30 sepals. Summer foliage is medium to dark green. Fall color is yellow to golden brown. This fast grower can adapt to many soils--even limestone and silty clay loam. Would make a nice specimen or early spring color accent.
