Family: Magnoliaceae (magnolia family)
Synonym: Magnolia grandiflora 'Twenty-four Below'
Distribution: Species native to s.e. United States

Comments: This evergreen tree came from a specimen in Knoxville, Tennessee that survived -24F in 1985. The straight species can grow to 80' tall by 50' wide in a densely conical shape. Slow to medium growth rate (faster with fertilizer). Would make a nice specimen. Thick leaves are lustrous green and 5-10" long. The huge flowers are creamy-white colored, 8-12" in May-June.
