Comments: This upright, clump-forming, evergreen shrub grows to 6' tall. It is especially valued by birds for its persistent fruits and branch structure. Lustrous, dark green leaves turn burgundy in winter. Flowers have creamy white petals which appear in May but are inconspicuous. In the presence of a suitable male pollinator, female plants have berrylike, black drupes that occur from September to May of the following year. Plant in full sun in rich, moist, slightly acid soil.
