Hamamelis virginiana 'Green Thumb' - Green Thumb common witch-hazel
.
Common name: Green Thumb common witch-hazel
Family: Hamamelidaceae (witch-hazel family)
Distribution: Species native to e.-c. and e. North America
Hardiness: USDA Zone 5
Life form: Deciduous shrub/Subshrub
Comments: A recent introduction of a vigorously growing variegated selection. The variegation is said to remain stable with no sign of reversion, a problem with some other variegated plants. It is a rounded deciduous shrub growing 8’ tall and wide. Young foliage is yellow-green, maturing to a central splash of green with a wide yellow margin. The variegated foliage stands up well in summer heat showing no scorching. The flowers are pale yellow with a faint scent, flowering mid through late autumn. Fall color is yellow and plant does not retain its leaves in winter. An excellent specimen or accent plant.
