An evergreen witches'-broom described as being very dense, slow-growing dwarf forming an irregularly shaped mound. Considered the best type of fir for the Midwest, this species is known for retaining its lower limbs longer than many other conifers. Unlike most firs it is equally tolerant of heat and cold once established and very tolerant of urban conditions.
